Dynomometer Tuning

Why Dyno Testing?

  • Engine can be properly broken-in under controlled conditions
  • Oil pressure is built up before the engine is started for the first time insuring that the bearings are fully charged with oil
  • Oil and water leaks are easily seen during testing and much easier to find and repair
  • Engine Qualification - The power of your vehicle can be observed and recorded. This is then compared to other engines to ensure the engine is running at peak performance levels.
  • Documentation of Results - Records of all readings are produced as part of the cars history. These records can be used to show compression and cylinder leak-down at the end of the testing and are useful in monitoring engine wear.
  • Horse power and torque readings can be used for Torque converter selection
  • Inertia Acceleration Testing - This test is used to quickly find the peak horsepower and torque numbers of a vehicle. An inertia test is a practical and efficient way to gauge your automobile’s performance.
  • Controlled Acceleration Testing - This test is used to gather more information by accelerating under load. The test controls the rate of acceleration to a constant rate RPM per second. By utilizing this test it is possible to find the optimum combination for each acceleration rate. This in turn provides you accurate information to make an informed decision on the average jetting or timing required for the engine.

*Tribology is the science and engineering of interacting surfaces in relative motion. It includes the study and application of the principles of friction, lubrication and wear. Tribology is a branch of mechanical engineering.

Dyno testing is an important part of engine rebuilding. It provides invaluable information on force, torque and power. In addition to a variety of engine development activities such as the calibration of engine management controllers, detailed investigations into combustion behavior and tribology*.
